Mercedes-Benz has just confirmed all the numbers on its new E-Class petrol-electric plug-in hybrid saloon.
The new E 300 e follows the recently launched diesel plug-in hybrid and completes the E-Class hybrid range. It is available to order now with prices starting from £47,450 for the entry-level SE model.
Its powertrain brings together a 208bhp turbocharged two-litre petrol engine with electric motors, producing the equivalent of 120bhp.
The end result is a car that can achieve 134.5mpg on the combined cycle whilst emitting 46g/km of CO2. Performance is peppy too, ramping up from zero to 62mph in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 155mph.
On electric power alone, it can drive for 31 miles before firing up the petrol engine. The 13.5 kWh battery can be fully charged from 10 per cent in under two hours with a 7.4 kW charger, or in under four hours from a standard three-pin UK socket.
Every E 300 e comes with a high specification as standard, with the entry-level SE featuring blind spot assist, widescreen cockpit, four USB ports, touchpad with controller, illuminated door sills, split-folding rear seats, active parking assist with front and rear parking sensors, electro-pneumatic four-way lumbar support, 64-colour ambient lighting, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, keyless-go starting function, light carbon-grain aluminium trim with centre console in black open-pored ash wood, and heated front seats with electric adjustment.
The upper tier AMG Line trim (£49,945) adds AMG exterior bodystyling, 18-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels, black open-pore ash wood trim with Artico Dinamica leather upholstery, AMG steering wheel with touch control buttons, and privacy glass.
Buyers can embellish their E300 e further by including the Premium package (£2,395), which adds in COMAND Online, memory package, wireless charging, multibeam LED, and parking package with 360-degree camera.
The £4,395 Premium Plus package builds on this with a Burmester surround sound system, keyless-go package including hands-free access, automatic powered boot closing and keyless entry, and a panoramic sunroof.
Jess Wort, marketing manager at the Green Journey, commented: “The E-Class plug-in hybrid is a fantastic tool for the company car driver who wants the benefits of an EV without losing the long distance range of a petrol or diesel car.”
